Historically, business cards were always quite professional and elegantly designed. They tended to be quite stark and clean – and branding wise, they may even have been described as being a little uptight. They were typically black and white, in part because that was the style of the time and also in part because of printing costs back then. Steve Jobs famously wanted to have a multi-coloured business card using the full striped Apple logo – despite the high price tag of the printing costs. These days, it’s now significantly cheaper to print in a whole range of colours, and there’s also much more of a trend to incorporate colour into the branding for startups and small businesses.

Bright splashes of colour can work wonders in helping your business card stand out and be memorable, and it doesn’t have to be lurid or overly vibrant. Sometimes just a quick flash of colour can be enough to add a beautiful, classy aesthetic to your design. We’ve created a showcase of some fantastic, bright and cheerful business card designs that all use colour effectively. Some of them use just a touch to draw your attention, while others are much more in-your-face. We hope the showcase helps to give you some ideas for your next business card design project.
